Die Heterocera Sumatrana Society wurde im November 1982 gegründet. 

Es war eine gemeinnützige private Organisation nach deutschem Vereinsrecht („e.V.“), die sich der Erforschung der Schmetterlingsfauna (speziell der Nachtfalter) der indonesischen Insel Sumatra gewidmet hat. — Inzwischen ist sie aufgelöst worden.

 The Heterocera Sumatrana Society was founded in November 1982. 

It was a private, tax-free organization (a society according to German law: e.V. = “eingetragener Verein”) fully devoted to the study of the Lepidoptera (especially Heterocera) fauna of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, SE Asia. — In the meanwhile, the society HSS has been disbanded.

Die Heterocera Sumatrana Society gab eine wissenschaftliche Publikationsserie heraus:

Es gab darin zwei Teilserien: 
  1. Die „Roten Zeitschriftenbände“ mit kleineren Einzelartikeln, Gattungsrevisionen, Nachträgen zur „Grünen“ Serie, Zuchtberichten und Präimaginalmorphologien etc.
  2. Die „Grünen Buchbände“ mit größeren Gesamtbearbeitungen der Inselfauna ab dem Niveau von Triben aufwärts.

There were two separate series combined in it:
  1. The “Red Journal Volumes” with smaller contributions, revisions, supplements to the “Green” series, rearing reports and preimaginal morphologies, etc.
  2. The “Green Book Volumes” with larger complete faunistic treatments from the level of tribes upwards.
